Those in the community love living here in Rexburg because of all of the amazing sites to see that are just a short distance away. However, living in the Rexburg community, we need to become aware of the possibility of radon gas seeping into our homes or apartments.
Radon Protection
Here in Rexburg, The Village Apartments are the only apartments that have been checked and are being protected from radon. I know you’re all probably wondering, what is radon and why should I care about it. Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and invisible gas. It is naturally occurring and comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil.
Is it Harmful?
Radon is something that we should all become better aware of. Although you wouldn’t think, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers and causes more than 20,000 deaths each year in the United States. As radon gas particles break down, they release small bursts of energy that can damage lung tissue and may lead to lung cancer in some people.
Radon Poisoning
Radon poisoning can occur when there are high concentrations of radon gas. Since radon is the #2 cause of lung cancer, radon poisoning symptoms resemble those of lung cancer. If you find yourself having a persistent cough, breathing difficulties, wheezing, hoarseness or recurring respiratory infections; you may want to seek medical help. There is no need to worry if you start having a cold or a cough, but these are all just cautionary warning symptoms to be aware of.
What’s the Link to Idaho?
Even if you haven’t heard of radon while living in Idaho, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be aware of radon and its effects. Studies show that radon is found in every county in Idaho. All across the state of Idaho, 40% of homes test high for radon. Each of these levels vary in homes depending on the location and type of construction.
Keep Yourself Safe
It is recommended that people should not be exposed to radon levels above 4.0 pCi/L. Here in the Madison County, radon levels show that 60% of the county have radon results of 4.0 pCi/L and above. In order to keep yourself safe, you may want to have your home or apartment tested. Testing is easy and can be inexpensive. You can find some test kits for as low as $9.95 and remember when testing to test in the lowest livable area of the home.
Take Action
We want you to know that The Village Apartments are no ordinary apartment complex. Here at The Village, we took matters into our own hands by going through a tedious six-month process to have each and every apartment checked for radon. In doing so, we had 1 to 3 fans installed on each building for precautionary measures. These fans pull out radon from the ground and push it up and out of harms way. We can now say that all 207 units at The Village are protected and radon free.
We Care About You
Having our apartments here at The Village checked and protected from radon is something that we wanted to do to show our residents that we truly care for them. Radon levels are higher in the lowest livable area of a home; that’s potentially where your children and pets play and crawl. Here at The Village Apartments, we want you to know that we care about your quality of life, which is why all of our apartments are protected from radon. Our goal is to keep our residents safe and to offer them the best overall quality of living.
