Transitioning from Student Housing to Community Housing.

Here at The Village we welcome everyone from all walks of life. Whether you are a young family needing a 2 bedroom apartment, a single adult looking for housing with or without roommates, recently married and seeking community housing or just looking for an apartment because you are new to Rexburg or downsizing, we cater to all walks of life. Our goal is to provide ideal housing for anyone and everyone that is looking. We have an open door policy and want to do our best in looking after everyone’s needs. We will honor all reasonable accommodations.

Being community housing in Rexburg means that we tend to get a lot of students that have either graduated and are staying to work in the area or students that have recently gotten married and need to make the change from BYUI student approved housing to community housing. This is just one example of many that we face as meet with potential residents here at The Village. For those who are in this situation, we wanted to offer a few tips and help as you make the transition from student housing to community housing. Read below to learn more and see why making the transition can be easy if you do your research and are prepared in your housing search.

1) Student Housing cost includes utilities and internet. When you come to college at BYUI, your costs are all included in your monthly or semester rent. When you move into community housing those will be separate. Most of the time you will need to set up a electricity and gas bill through energy companies for your individual unit. Sometimes you even have to pay for your own internet and cable depending on the community housing you live in. Here at The Village we provide cable and internet for a communication fee that is added to your monthly rent. As you do your research, learn what different complexes do but make you know. The last thing you want to do is move in, not set up your utilities and then have to pay a fee on top of what you owe. Feel free to ask us any questions, we would love to help you. Call us at (208) 356-7786.

2) Community Housing monthly rent. When you move into community housing you will be paying your rent on a monthly basis. You will also need to sign a set lease, usually for 6 or 12 months. You can sign a month to month lease, but additional fee’s usually come with it. With student housing you sign up by the semester and can either pay monthly or all up front. Sometimes it is easy to just pay for the whole semester as a student. So sit aside your rent money and project your costs as you determine the ideal housing for you. We offer the best value per square foot in Rexburg. To learn more about our variety of floor plans and pricing, see our apartments page.

3) Furnished Student Housing. When you come to college at BYUI almost all student housing comes furnished with appliances, furniture, beds, washing machines, ect. Most community housing does not provide fully furnished apartments. Some will come with appliances, others will not. Here at The Village we provide the kitchen appliances such as dishwasher, fridge, microwave and oven. We also provide a washer and dryer. You will need to provide your furniture and bed. By doing this we allow you to put your “personal stamp” on your home here at The Village. Find our full list of amenities and apartment home features.

These are just a few of the major thinks to consider when transitioning from student housing to community housing. As you do your research you will see different complexes provide different features and amenities. We promise that you will find what you are looking for at The Village. We have 9 different floor plans for you to choose from to meet your needs. We are a pet-friendly complex with feature rich amenities and great perks. Here is a review from one of our current residents about his experience here at The Village. We appreciate the kind words and love knowing we have helped to accommodate his families needs.

“My family and I just moved into the Village apartments. After weeks of trying to find a place with a short lease for a family of nine with two dogs, my wife and I were almost ready to give up and rent a “van down by the river!” Nobody would even call us back!!! And then we ran into Deidre & Madison in the leasing office… They were amazing!!! I can’t tell them thanks enough for all the above and beyond service they have offered my family and I. They listened to our needs, cared about our situation, and made every effort possible to make the best accommodations for us. They even patched up my 9 year old daughter when my dog dragged her across the parking lot! And the rest of the staff follows the same remarkable trend. I hardly ever take the time to write comments like this, but this has been a truly outstanding experience for my family and I. Thank you Village staff, for all you do!!!”  – Ryan Buttars.
