Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day from all of us here at The Village! Father’s Day gives us a chance to honor and spend a day thanking our dads for all they have done. Since we were little kids, our fathers were there to play catch, help us learn to ride a bike, and even cheer us on during our soccer game. Fathers have a special place in our hearts, and celebrating Father’s Day gives us the perfect opportunity to thank them for all that they do.

History

Mother’s Day became a national holiday in 1908 and by 1909, 45 states were already observing this day. However, Father’s Day did not come about until 1910. On July 19, 1910 Washington State celebrated the nation’s first statewide Father’s Day. There was much controversy that arose when state governments were urged to observe Father’s Day. Men didn’t like the idea of domesticating manliness with gift-giving and they thought that it was just another commercial gimmick to sell more products. It wasn’t until 1972 when Richard Nixon signed a proclamation making Father’s Day a federal holiday at last.
